1. Will this violation show on my driving record?

Any conviction (example: a guilty plea or finding of guilty at trial) or bail forfeiture on traffic matters appears on your driving record. This excludes parking and ordinance violations. Bicycle violations and passenger citations do not go on your driving record, unless the citation was for a major traffic offense.

2. What if I cannot pay my fine today?

You must appear in court and ask the judge for a payment agreement. The court will suspend your driver’s license if you fail to pay your bail or fine on time. Your balance may also be turned over to a collection agency. These types of actions result in additional costs to you. You should always contact the court immediately to investigate the status of your matter and discuss your options.

3. What happens if I miss my court date?

If you miss your arraignment date for a traffic offense or a city code violation you will be found Guilty by Default and your fine will be due in full within 30 days.  Failure to comply will result in your balance being sent to a collection agency. Additionally, if your citation is a moving violation, non-payment could result in suspension of your driver's license. If you citation is sent to collections or your license and your license is suspended, additional fees will be added to your account. 

4. My citation was for driving uninsured. What if I have found my proof of insurance?

Bring your proof of insurance with you when you appear in Court. You may also appear before the court clerk on any business day prior to your court date.

5. Is your office open during the lunch hour?

Yes. However, there are several other ways to make payments. You can make your payment online. You can also drop your payment in the drop box near the front door of City Hall. You may also pay your citation by mail or by bringing it into City Hall.

6. Can I go to traffic school to keep this traffic conviction off my driving record?

Yes. The City of Eagle Point does offer traffic school. You must appear in court to speak to the Judge. The Judge will determine if you are eligible for traffic school.

7. Can I appear in Eagle Point Municipal Court for citations filed in other courts?

No. Each court is responsible for maintaining and processing its own records and citations. You must pay or appear in the court where the citation is filed.

8. I received a letter from the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) stating my license is going to be suspended. What should I do?

Your license can be suspended for many reasons. You should contact your local DMV to find out what agency is requesting the suspension. You will need to contact the requesting agency to find out more details about the pending suspension. If your suspension is due to outstanding fines in this court, you should contact us to discuss your options.
