City of Eagle Point

 . . . Gateway to the Lakes

Welcome to Eagle Point

Eagle Point is a community of 8,000+ residents located in the Upper Rogue River Valley in Southern Oregon, approximately 10 miles east of Interstate 5 and northeast of Medford along State Highway 62. Eagle Point is only 40 miles from the California/ Oregon Border and just 50 miles west of Crater Lake National Park. The community is the “Gateway” to several mountain lakes in the region including Crater Lake. The community was incorporated in 1911.

Eagle Point, like many small Oregon communities, grew slowly but flourished as a result of a strong agrarian economy in the region. Both timber and fruit orchards were part of the regional economic base. Today, Eagle Point is a growing part of Southern Oregon’s building boom. Eagle Point has doubled in size in the past 10 years and is one of the fastest growing communities in the State. In 1995 the opening of the 18-hole championship Eagle Point Golf Course started the current surge of community growth. The Robert Trent Jones Jr. Design has drawn golf enthusiasts from throughout the west to play with many moving to the community. Eagle Point has primarily acted as a bedroom community for the greater Medford/White City business centers. Although the primary employment centers are outside the community, the residential growth has created a new commercial desire that is starting to refocus opportunities for new jobs within the community.

Eagle Point has a number of comparative advantage factors. At the top of the list is “livability”. People are drawn to the small town atmosphere and the beautiful surroundings. In addition, residents are drawn to the recreational opportunities in and around Eagle Point. Finally, Eagle Point has relatively little crime or traffic congestion which contributes to its attractiveness as a safe place to live. The community has also seen a reconstruction boom in new school facilities, a new fire station and medical facilities. Today Eagle Point enjoys the largest growth boom in its history but still remains friendly, livable and focused for the future.

 Harnish Park Grand Opening

Harnish Wayside Park has been a vision of the City’s for over 30 years.  Funded by The City of Eagle Point, Oregon State Parks, The U.S. Dept. of Forestry and The Harnish Family, this vision became a reality with its Grand Opening on May 24, 2008.    This park offers walking paths along beautiful Little Butte Creek, picnic tables, BBQ’s, benches for fish and wildlife viewing opportunities and large, cool grassy areas to stretch out in.  Inside the barn-like structure (fashioned after the Harnish family livery stable of yesteryear) are one-of-a-kind murals and lifesize wildlife sculptures.  One room shares the recreational opportunities in Eagle Point and the Upper Rogue region and the other room shares interesting water, fish and wildlife information.  If you haven’t visited the park, be sure to stop in and visit!  One of our knowledgeable Park Hosts will be there to share information with you!
